LUBBOCK, TX (June 2019)

Group NIRE’s team has developed an Energy Management system to monitor and control distributed energy resources (DERS) at their field site.

This system was created to assist in managing the Network Optimized Distributed Energy Resources (NODES) program that Group NIRE was awarded through ARPA-E in partnership with DNV GL. Group NIRE has developed its own Internet of Energy platform to monitor local utilities, data acquisition systems, and manage DERS within Group NIRE’s test facility.

Group NIRE’s Electrical Engineer, Joshua MacFie, stated that “The creation of this Energy Management System for the NODES program not only ensures the forward progress of this ARPA-E program but also provides Group NIRE with a platform to research and develop innovative energy management technologies. Using our highly customizable EMS new IP can be rapidly tested and prototyped.”

This energy management system now successfully manages the interconnection of over 100 DERS.
