The Defense Energy Summit gathers the nation’s energy, business and defense leadership to accelerate the development and deployment of new energy and infrastructure solutions for the U.S. military.

“The defense of the electric grid from cyber security attacks is one of the greatest challenges facing our nation. The only way to successfully defend and mitigate cyber security attacks is to understand through field testing the interplay between hardware and software systems,” Group NIRE CEO, Mark Harral said.

In November 2014, the DES hosted a conference in Austin, TX called “Cyber Impacts on Energy Security,” where Group NIRE CEO Mark Harral discussed the cyber security program Group NIRE has developed with Intel, TTU and CCET. Harral also presented results from Group NIRE’s utility scale battery and its interaction on the electric grid. The purpose of the conference was to bring in experts to discuss cyber security and possible solutions to help eliminate cyber threats on military installations. The overall goal is to advance the nation’s energy infrastructure for the benefit of national security.
