Generators used in wind-turbine systems fall into four architecture types: dc, ac, ac synchronous, and switched reluctance. What are the unique power-density aspects of these versions, including the most widely used among them—the doubly-fed induction generator?

Fundamental physical limits exist as to how much energy can be extracted from renewable resources for a given area of land. Read more

ENERGY STORAGE

Energy storage is gaining popularity as a solution to grid issues created, in part, by renewables in today’s world. This, combined with many of the techniques and technologies that Group NIRE has created and deployed, makes for a solid solution to many of the grid issues we see, and will likely see in the future. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY – JANUARY 15, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) announced plans to make $160 million in federal funding available to help recalibrate the Nation’s vast fossil-fuel and power infrastructure for decarbonized energy and commodity production. The funding, for cost-shared cooperative agreements, is aimed to develop technologies for the production, transport, storage, and utilization of fossil-based hydrogen, with progress towards net-zero carbon emissions.
